In the realm of action figures, we are witnessing an unprecedented era of creativity and craftsmanship. With companies pushing the boundaries of articulation and design, collectors are more excited than ever. However, lurking in the shadows is a significant challenge that could dampen this enthusiasm: rising prices due to new tax regulations. Recently, a highly anticipated figure from the Spider-Man universe has been made available for pre-order, but many collectors are more concerned about the price than the figure itself.
Exciting New Black Costume Spider-Man
While the third installment of the Spider-Man trilogy may not have received the warmest reception from fans back in 2007, it introduced elements that have remained iconic. One such element is the black suit worn by Spider-Man, which eventually led to the creation of Venom in the film, despite the portrayal not being universally acclaimed.
During that time, the toy company was still establishing its presence in the market, yet they managed to release figures related to Spider-Man 3. Fast forward 18 years, and collectors are finally getting a chance to pre-order a Black Costume Spider-Man figure that pays homage to the beloved trilogy!
Unfortunately, the timing of this pre-order coincided with a significant announcement regarding tariffs, leading to an unexpected spike in the figure’s price. The MSRP for this new release has reached levels that many collectors find surprising.
Pre-orders opened at a notable $37.99 for the 6-inch figure, with other retailers following suit with similarly high prices. Faced with these steep costs, many collectors, including myself, opted for a more reasonable price on Amazon, where it was listed at $29.99. This price point proved to be popular, as the figure quickly sold out on that platform.
It’s unfortunate that the price hike is overshadowing the figure’s release, as it truly is a remarkable piece. The inclusion of the “Emo Peter Parker” head and symbiote effects adds a unique touch, and the retooling of the existing Spider-Man mold enhances its accuracy to the film’s portrayal.
Nevertheless, the sudden increase in prices from the previous range of $22-$25 to $30-$38 is quite shocking. While licensed designs typically carry a premium, this price still feels steep for a retooled figure. Personally, I don’t regret spending $30 for the pre-order, but I can understand the hesitation at the higher price points.
What are your thoughts on this new release, fellow collectors? Did you manage to secure your own black costume Spider-Man, and at what price? If prices continue to rise for non-licensed figures, how will that impact your collecting habits?
